Palm Beach, the quiet end of the Gold Coast

Palm Beach is the southern Gold Coast at its most liveable: a long uncrowded stretch of sand, a surf club four minutes along the beach with patrolled flags for safe swimming and a deck for drinks and dinner, and a precinct that starts two minutes up the road — bakeries, cafés, wine bars and restaurants that locals actually eat at, with a Coles supermarket, chemist and doctors, gyms and hairdressers five minutes on.

Everything sits within a short drive. Tallebudgera Creek is minutes north, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is around the corner, Coolangatta is minutes south, and Burleigh Heads is close enough for a morning walk over the headland.

The Beach House by Sandbox has four bedrooms and sleeps up to eight guests: one king, two queens and two singles. There are three bathrooms, each with a shower — one is a steam shower, and one bathroom also has a bathtub.

Yes. Free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and smart TVs in the living room and the ground-floor bedroom. The kitchen has Miele appliances, and the infrared sauna sits in the garden on the north side of the house.

Yes. The property sits on Jefferson Lane with a private lawn that opens directly onto the sand at Palm Beach, and panoramic ocean views from the living areas and balconies.

Gold Coast Airport at Coolangatta (OOL) is roughly a ten minute drive south along the Gold Coast Highway.

Yes. There is free parking for up to seven cars: a secure triple garage plus room for three or four on the driveway. An EV charger is available, with fees applying for its use.

Yes, and unusually so for a beach house. The lift runs all three floors — basement garage at street level, ground floor at beach level, and level one above — and every floor is flat once you step out. That means step-free from the car to your bedroom, and step-free from the ground floor straight out to the sand. A queen bedroom with an adjacent shower room sits on the ground floor for exactly this reason, which is unusual in a beach house. If mobility or age means you need the lift, we activate it for you and waive the operating fee — just tell us when you book. The path to the sand is a short walk across the lawn. Tell us what you need beforehand and we'll tell you honestly whether the house works.

The lift serves all three floors — basement garage at street level, ground floor at beach level and level one above — and each floor is flat once you step out, so the stairs can be bypassed entirely. It is switched on at your request. Because it is a serviced piece of equipment, we give a short safety briefing at handover and ask that it is operated by adults only. An operating fee of $150 to activate plus $50 a day covers servicing and maintenance, and it is waived for guests who need the lift for mobility or age. Most guests are happy on the stairs, which are unusually wide and gentle, with a single easy flight between each floor.

No. The sand directly in front of the house is unpatrolled. The nearest flagged swimming is at Palm Beach Surf Life Saving Club, about 300 metres to the right along the beach, whenever the patrol is on. Always swim between the red and yellow flags, keep children within arm's reach, and check the Beachsafe app for conditions before you go in.

Everything is a short walk. The cafés, bakeries and restaurants of the Palm Beach precinct start about 150 metres from the gate, and Coles, the chemist, doctors, gyms and hairdressers are all within a two to three minute walk. Palm Beach Surf Life Saving Club is a few minutes along the sand for a drink or dinner with the beach in front of you. Burleigh Heads is ten minutes north and Currumbin eight minutes south.

Check-in is from 2pm and check-out is 10am. If the house is ready earlier we are happy to let you in ahead of time, and we can usually accommodate a later departure if you ask — just let us know in advance and we'll do our best.

Yes, a $1,500 security bond applies to every stay. It isn't a payment: we take a pre-authorisation on your credit card only, and we release the hold once you've checked out, provided the house is left as you found it.

Rates move with the season and the length of your stay. As a guide, quiet shoulder-season weeks start at around $1,000 a night for the whole house, most of the year sits closer to $1,300 a night, and Christmas and New Year are higher. Whatever the season, the price our booking engine shows you is the total for your dates: the $450 cleaning and linen fee is already in it, and there are no booking fees when you book direct. The $1,500 security bond is only a pre-authorisation on your credit card, not a charge, and we release the hold once you've checked out. Our best rate is for stays of three nights or more; one and two-night stays are available on the flexible rate.

It depends on the rate you choose, and each rate shows its conditions before you book. The Preferred Residence Rate, for stays of three nights or more, is non-refundable. The Short Stay Rate is our flexible rate: cancel free of charge up to 60 days before arrival, and within 60 days it is non-refundable. Every booking also has a cooling-off period — 24 hours if you book more than 72 hours before check-in, and 2 hours if you book inside 72 hours.

No. The house is a residence in a quiet beachfront street and parties and events are not permitted. Family gatherings, milestone birthdays and long dinners on the terrace are exactly what it is set up for.

The house is strictly non-smoking, indoors and on the balconies.

Palm Beach is a beach break that changes with the sandbanks. It is at its best on a small clean swell with a morning offshore. Currumbin Alley is the easier wave for beginners, eight minutes south, and Burleigh and Snapper are close for experienced surfers.
